A full-length album by Tokyo-based DJ/producer Max Essa, released on the renowned Danish label Music For Dreams. Even now, eight years after its release, it remains a piece I find myself returning to from time to time.
Shifting away from the comfortable, groove-driven nu-disco approach of his previous work, Won Ton Sunset, this album turns toward an introspective, personal listening sound, reflecting the quiet moments and landscapes encountered on a journey. While Max Essa would later co-curate the Japanese ambient and chill-out compilation Oto No Wa: Selected Sounds of Japan 1988–2018, the essence of environmental music is woven throughout this work, creating a presence that feels like a contemporary update of Interior's aesthetics. The artwork seems to abstract the light and shadow of a sunset. A gentle shoreline between dance and meditation, the easy and the deep. To be enjoyed alongside "Miró In The Bathroom," which lies on the same continuum.
