数万年前からオーストラリアに住む先住民アボリジニが儀式などで用いる楽器ディジュリドゥ（シロアリによって空洞になったユーカリの木の筒）とトロンボーンによるドローン演奏を収録した1983年カセットのCDリイシュー。デンプスターはソロ作の他、アコーディオン奏者ポーリン・オリヴェロス率いる即興瞑想演奏グループ「ディープ・リスニング・バンド」の一員として、洞窟・大聖堂・巨大な地下の貯水槽といった深い残響空間での録音を残しています。

ディジュリドゥとトロンボーンによる僧院での録音を収録。石造りの僧院特有の長いディレイ効果により、無音とは異なるやわらかなサイレンスが空間を満たしてゆくメディテーティヴ・アンビエント／リスニング実録の名作。ドローン奏法は「器官」として楽器がもつフォークロアや、演奏空間に眠る歴史性や物語を浮かび上がらせるように感じます。

ニューウェイヴやインダストリアル、ミニマル・ミュージックなどの要素と地中海の豊穣な民族霊性がクロスオーバーし、独自性に富んだ音楽家が多数登場した80年代スパニッシュ・ニューエイジ・シーン。その中心となるレーベルGrabaciones Accidentalesからの一作で、「マドリッドの彗星」シリーズ中もっともメロウなサウンドを聴かせるギター器楽集「イオランサ」。春風がそよ吹く穏やかな都市風景「見晴らし台」「エミリオ」「ミルタウン」、物悲しく陰影のあるフレーズがVini Reillyを彷彿とさせる「マーガ」「屋根の上のギリシャ神殿」、Martin Kolbe & Ralf Illenbergerの 'Annalisa' を思わせるミニマルな反復が夢心地へと誘う「風」。Miguel Herrero（ミゲル・エレーロ）はレーベルの創設グループのひとつEsclarecidosや、ポストパンク・バンド ...Oh! などで活動していたギタリスト。Suso Sáiz率いるミニマル楽団Orquesta De Las NubesのメンバーらによるMúsica Esporádicaの1985年作とあわせて、昨年一年通してくり返し聴いた思い出深い一枚です。
追記：1989年には「En la quietud y la calma（静かで穏やか）」というタイトルで、Madrid Ediciones Cúbicasよりカセットテープで再リリースされていました。素朴な風景のペイントを配った暖色のデザインは、暗い印象のオリジナル盤より音楽にフィットしているように感じます。
