ビデオゲームにおける「セーブルーム」という概念にフォーカスを当てたアンビエント作品。YAMAHA DX7Ⅱなどのデジタル・シンセサイザーやバスフルート、オシレーターなど用いて構築された、きわめてミニマルなサウンドが主体となっています。プレーヤーにとって安息の空間であるセーブルーム。そんな前提で聴き進めていると、不思議と、異世界への待合室や安置室といった「死」を予感させる寂寥としたイメージが意識されます。セーブルームが安全スポットであると同時に、孤立した空白状態でもあり、また一歩外へ出ると再び危険に晒されるという紙一重の境界にあるからなのかもしれません。高揚に対する沈静、ひいては生に対する死。風の停滞や水の澱みのような感覚を暗示する点において、ブライアン・イーノ「Music for Airports」やテーリ・テムリッツ「Tranquilizer」に近いものを感じさせる一作です。音の構成も着眼点も面白いですね。作者はアメリカ出身で、現在はギリシャを拠点に活動する作曲家/マルチ奏者のジョン・オールソー・ベネット（JAB）。
This ambient work explores the concept of the "save room" in video games. Its minimalist soundscape is meticulously crafted using oscillators, bass flute, and digital synthesizers such as the Yamaha DX7 II. While a save room is traditionally a sanctuary for the player, listening through this lens evokes a strange, desolate sense of "death"—reminiscent of an otherworldly waiting room or a mortuary. This shift in perception perhaps stems from the fact that while the save room is a safe haven, it is also a state of isolated emptiness, existing on a razor-thin boundary where a single step outside means returning to peril. It is sedation against exhilaration, and perhaps even, death against life. In its suggestion of stagnant air or still water, the work evokes a feeling akin to Brian Eno’s Music for Airports or Terre Thaemlitz’s Tranquilizer. Both the sonic architecture and the conceptual focus are deeply intriguing. The artist is John Also Bennett (JAB), an American-born composer and multi-instrumentalist currently based in Greece.
