As part of its series of reissues of seminal works from ambient / progressive musician Forrest Fang, Projekt makes Fang’s second album, Some Brighter Stars, available digitally for the first time. First released in 1982, on this album Fang applies tape delay techniques and a minimalist sensibility to analog synthesizers and acoustic instruments such as violin and piano. Originally available on Fang’s Ominous Thud label in a limited vinyl issue of 300 copies, Some Brighter Stars has been newly remastered by ambient musician Robert Rich and includes a previously unreleased bonus track. - text for digital reissue on bandcamp

Chinese-American multi-instrumentalist Forrest Fang's first instrument was the violin. In 1980-1981 he studied electronic music, composition, and jazz improvisation at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. At the same time, he learned fiddling at regional fiddling festivals and gained an appreciation for stringed instruments such as the mandolin and mandola. Fang's first records were rooted in electronic music and progressive rock. His study of Chinese classical music, with zheng (Chinese zither) player Zhang Yan from mainland China, led to a stylistic shift that was evident on his fourth release, The Wolf at the Ruins (1989). After 1991, Fang studied gagaku (ancient Japanese court music) with imperial court musician Suenobu Togi and gamelan with Balinese composer I Wayan Sujana. In 1993, Fang composed music for a Balinese shadow theater production of In Zanadu, which was awarded a Citation of Excellence from the International Puppetry Association. Some of this material was rearranged and adapted for his sixth release, 1995's Folklore. He also appeared on Robert Rich's album Seven Veils. Fang's solo releases continued with The Blind Messenger in 1997 and Gongland in September 2000.

Bob DylanやCharly Garciaに影響を受け70年代よりフォーク/プログレッシヴ・ロックのグループに参加、現在まで数多くのソロ作を発表しているメキシコ・トクンボ出身の音楽家/詩人Arturo Meza（アルトゥーロ・メザ）。「Venadito del Sol Hikurí」は山間部に暮らすアステカ族の一族ウイチョル族のコスモロジーを題材に、ドキュメンタリーのサウンドトラックとして製作されたという1993年作。タイトルのVenadito（ヴェナディト）はウイチョル族の重要な食糧源であり精霊でもある「鹿」、Hikurí（ヒクリ）は彼らが神聖視する「ペヨテ/幻覚サボテン」。シンガーとして存在感を放つ作品が多くありますが、神秘的なトランス儀礼を思わせるインストゥルメントと声のハーモニーに比重が置かれた本作は、Jorge ReyesやAntonio Zepeda、Eblen Macariなどプレヒスパニック音響派と同列に位置する精神性と実験性を宿したフォーク/アンビエント作に仕上げられています。

Arturo Meza (Tocumbo, Michoacán, December 12, 1956) is a mexican songwriter, musician, composer, singer, poet and writer, and also inventor of musical instruments like teclaedro, yeloguerlizet, mezáfono and oglio. The base of his songs is folk music on guitar and vocals. Meza is an independent and prolific artist, with many published works.

音楽家/音楽考古学者のCajsa S. Lund（カイサ・S・ルンド）監修、先史時代におけるスカンディナヴィアの楽器の音色や、演奏風景を収めた博物資料作品「先史時代スカンディナヴィアの響き」。骨のスクレーパー、木製のフルート、鐘や太鼓等の打楽器、ヴァイキングの青銅ホルン、ラットル（ガラガラ）、バグパイプ、マウスボウ（口琴）など、博物館に保管されている貴重な楽器より復元されたレプリカでの演奏を、新石器時代（紀元前10，000年～紀元前1,800年）、青銅器時代（紀元前1,800年～紀元前500年）、鉄器時代（紀元前500年～紀元1050年）と3チャプターに分けて紹介。耳で聴く総図録という体裁ですが、時代とともに変遷する楽器に宿った古えの習俗や風景、土地/民族のコスモロジー、楽器とともに収録された風景音もあわせてひとつのサウンドスケープ作品としての様相も感じられます。響きの奥に広がる森閑な時の流れはアンビエントとしかいいようのない感覚。スウェーデン政府出資、王立音楽アカデミー製作によって運営されるMusica Sveciaeから1984年に2枚組LPで出版、1991年にはブックレットもあわせてCD化されています。

USスペース・ミュージックの開拓者の一人であり、現在まで数多くの映像用音楽を手掛けるサウンド・デザイナーMichael Stearns（マイケル・スターンズ）。「M'ocean」（my ocean/emotion）は79年から82年にかけて行われたライブ音源を素材とした作品「Light Play」（Continuum Montage, 1983年）を再編集した第6作。ニューエイジ・シーンの中でも良質なエレクトロニック作品を多く残しているSonic Atmospheresより。

M'Ocean is another Earth Turtle Music reissue by Michael Stearns. He released it first as Light Play on cassette on the Continuum Montage label in 1983. In 1984, Sonic Atmospheres released it on cassette and CD. Tracks two through six were originally written for live performances. Stearns composed and performed track one -- "Sirens" -- on an Oberheim OB8 synthesizer, one of the first digitally controlled analog synths. He created the piece as soon as he set up the synth. Track seven -- "Walking Song" -- is a short Igor Stravinsky piece that Stearns transcribed for the synthesizer. The music is vintage and classic Stearns. The soundscapes are bright and elegant as only he creates. The rhythms are subtle, even transparent. The atmospheres are huge, warm, and inviting. This is music for wandering in the heart, mind, and soul. Stearns is in a league of his own. There are few -- if any -- discs comparable to this one. It is essential. ~ Jim Brenholts, AllMusic

Luis Cília nasceu no Huambo ( Angola ), em 1943. Veio para Portugal em 1959,para prosseguir os seus estudos. Em 1962 conheceu o poeta Daniel Filipe que o incentivou a musicar poesia. Datam desse ano as suas primeiras experiências nesse campo ( "Meu país", " O menino negro não entrou na roda" ,etc.),mais tarde incluídos no seu primeiro disco gravado em França, para a editora Chant du Monde. Em Abril de 1964 partiu para Paris, onde viveu até 1974. Em França estudou guitarra clássica com António Membrado e composição com Michel Puig. Entre 1964 e 1974 realizou recitais em quase todos os países da Europa. Depois do seu regresso a Portugal continuou a gravar discos, como compositor e intérprete e a realizar recitais. Como intérprete, gravou dezoito discos, alguns dos quais dedicados exclusivamente a poetas tais como Eugéno de Andrade ("O Peso da Sombra"), Jorge de Sena ("Sinais de Sena") ou David Mourão Ferreira ("Penumbra"). Nos últimos anos tem-se dedicado apenas à composição, nomeadamente para Teatro, Bailado e Cinema. Simo Lazarov (b.1948) is Bulgaria's first composer, performer and promoter of electronic music. He has specialized in several European studios and founded and directed the first Bulgarian studio for Electronic music at the Bulgarian National Radio (1973 - 1999). He is PhD and professor on computer music. His researches are about using synthesis of timbres in algorithmic music compositions. Since 1977 he has been a lecturer on sound engineering and electronic and computer music at the Music Academy, Technical and Sofia's Universities. In 1996 he created a brand new programme-course on Computer Systems and Technologies in the Music at the New Bulgarian University. His work covers three spheres which supplement each other and influence his development. These are the compositions of music, soundtracks, electronic and computer music studio recording and concert activity. Over the years Simo Lazarov has performed more than 1500 concerts. In recent years he has organized open-air mega concerts which are synthesis of the various arts, attracting large audiences for his contemporary music. Simo Lazarov has released 9 LP, 26 CD's, more than 100 soundtracks over 400 works and 9 books. For 30-th year Anniversary of first Bulgarian Electronic Music Studio was released 30 CDs Special Edition - Anthology of his music. He is a member of Bulgarian and Israeli Composers League and SEAH Czech EA Composers. He has been nominated Bulgaria's Musician of 1995. He has taken part in many electronic and computer music festivals all over Europe and USA. He was co-initiator of the Bulgaria’s Festival for Computer Art and Multimedia. In 1999 he created International Electro-Acoustic, Electronic and Computer Music Forum-Festival Computer Music Space .He has been distingnished at several major world computer music festivals.

I Am The Center: Private Issue New Age In America, 1950-1990 is the first major anthology to survey the golden age of new age and reveal the unbelievable truth about the genre.
For new age, at its best, is a reverberation of psychedelic music, and great by any standard. This is analog, handmade music communicating soul and spirit, often done on limited means and without commercial potential, self-published and self-distributed. Before it became big business and devolved into the spaced out elevator music we know and loathe today, this was the real thing.

Many of the biggest names are present — Iasos, inter-dimentional channeler of “paradise music”; Laraaji, discovered by Brian Eno playing for spare change in Washington Square Park; and the recently famous JD Emmanuel, icon to a new generation of drone, ambient, noise musicians. Call it what you will — before it was anything else, it was new age.

中欧・東欧地域の古典打弦楽器ツィンバロム（cimbalom）の名手として知られる、アメリカのマルチ・インストゥルメンタリスト/路上演奏家/創作楽器ビルダー Michael Masley（マイケル・マスリー）。伝統的な撥/ハンマーではなく、鉤爪が逆さになったような弓状のピック「ボウハンマー」での演奏が特徴で、Masleyはその発明者でもあり、スライドやピッキングといった巧みな奏法から古典音楽表現の可能性を広げたと評価されているようです。1985年発表のカセット「Cymbalom Solos」はツィンバロムを主に、カリンバ、ビブラフォン、パンパイプなどの演奏を収録したソロ初作。古雅な趣向とモダンな音響、限りなく宇宙を広げるメディテーショナルなアースフォーク・アンビエンス。プロデュースは、同年にニューエイジ音楽の名門Audionから秀作「Mythos」でデビューしたギター/シンセ奏者のBarry Cleveland（バリー・クリーヴランド）。Barry Cleveland作品をはじめ、元Psychic TVのDavid Michael Buntingによるインダストリアル/ネオフォーク・ユニットCurrent 93などの作品に参加されています。最新作は自作楽器Kalimbalomのソロ演奏。

[Instrument design]
In addition to the bowhammer, Masley has invented several musical instruments or modifications to existing instruments. These tend to be constructed from mass-produced consumer materials, such as rubber bands and suction cups, often coupled to traditional instruments such as drums.
Instruments include:
Water Tuned Glass Panpipes. A set of glass panpipes can be arbitrarily tuned as desired (including modal changes and microtonal increments) by adding water to (or removing from) each pipe. Water is typically added and removed with a turkey baster.
The Kabali, a modified doumbek. A metal doumbek is modified by attaching a piece of PVC pipe to the head via a suction cup. The pipe is used as a bridge supporting sixteen bungee cord strings. The strings may be tuned by use of a spring which circles the instrument below the head. The strings may be played by plucking them (causing them to snap back and hit the drumhead) or by strumming (in which case they resonate), "creating the complex periodicity of an irregular ostinato".[3] The sound has been compared to "multiple cellos strummed with earmuffs".
The Conundrum. This is a modified doumbek which has several suction cups attached to the head. A long rubber band is wound around the suction cups. Tension on the band and placement of the suction cups controls pitch.
The Palmharp. An egg slicer is attached to a small shaker drum. The slicer is strung with rubber bands of various tensions parallel to its wires; both wires and rubber bands are the strings of this instrument. Pitch control is achieved by flexing the slicer frame while strumming or plucking the strings, forming an idiophone. The instrument may be simultaneously shaken. This instrument is primarily "textural"; that is, it is intended to add ambient sounds and rhythms rather than melody or harmony.
