Based in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, Yuta Konishi explores local history and engages in regional branding that blends web development, video production, and historical research. Having long been active as a sound artist—distribution of nature sounds captured with self-built binaural microphones being one such initiative—this is his third album, released through his independent label K-MUSICLIFE.
Centered on soft electronics and field recordings, the album traces the subtle shifts of “water time”—the flow of rivers, the sound of rain, and the quietness of waterside environments—through a fresh and delicate soundscape. “Water Between Us,” “Infinity Moment,” and “Silent Rain” have a gentle quality reminiscent of Hiroshi Yoshimura’s Wet Land, while the ethnic touches of “Silent Serenity” evoke a sense of an imaginary journey.
There is a pleasing blend here of a pure sensibility from before ambient and New Age music began to be revisited, and elements of 2000s chill-out. Listening to this album, I find myself quietly recalling the landscapes and sensations of the pre-3/11 era. Another work in the lineage of Oto No Wa: Selected Sounds of Japan 1988–2018, it is a fine nature ambient work centered on water.
