プログレッシブ・ロックやミニマリズムをベースにプレヒスパニックの土着文化を取り込んだJorge ReyesやHumberto Alvarez、Eblen Macariといった民俗派のほか、ダークウェイヴやインダストリアルなどの拠点であったOpción Sónicaより94年にリリースされた、メキシコシティの作曲家／シンセシストOscar Menzel（オスカー・メンツェル）によるAirwaves名義の初作。北地のスペースミュージックやアンビエント・テクノ／チルアウトへの反応を示した、おそらくメキシコのエレクトニック・ミュージック史の過渡期にあたる作品のひとつ。太古の叡智や科学技術が結集した宇宙界未開区域への探訪、その最深部にある静かな中心極点へ自己を寂滅させてゆくディープな瞑想的世界観。Menzelはこの翌年に第2作「Second Shift」を発表後、スタジオVoltage Controlled Musicを拠点に活動を続け、2012年に永逝されたそうです。長い間廃盤になっていた作品ですが、2014年6月にネットレーベルOracleによりデジタル・リイシュー。
His work was unknown to me until very recently thanks to a recommendation from José Alvarez. When listening the tracks that bring to mind images of clouds and landscapes with a depth that was very characteristic of underground synth music back in the 90's I immeadiatelly got in touch with his then girlfriend Cecilia and the deal was done. Airwaves was the name of this project and here I present you "Ambient Tracks" . Don't be fooled by the archival nature of the title. This is a total work of depth and a window to discover mid-90's synth works. This release was originaly recorded back in 1994 and 20 years from there I want to make this little tribute to an excellent Mexican artist. - Oracle Netlabel
