Bark PsychosisやPapa Sprainといった初期UKポストロックのグループに数えられる、ブライトンのアンビエント/ドリームポップ・ユニットInsides。メンバーはJ. Serge Tardo（ギター/ピアノ/プログラミング etc）とKirsty Yates（ベース/ヴォーカル etc）。89年にDimitri Voulis（ギター）を含む3人でEarwigを結成し、92年にアルバム「Under My Skin I Am Laughing」と4枚のEPをリリース後、93年より男女デュオのInsides名義で活動。メランコリックなギター、ダウナーなフィメール・ヴォーカルに、恍惚としたシーケンス/ビートが融和する名作「Euphoria」に続き、名門4AD傘下のGuernicaより94年にリリースされた「Clear Skin」は、マリンバやグロッケンシュピールの反復を基軸に、Reichのようなミニマル・ミュージックへ接近した38分1トラック。レーベルのチーフ・プロデューサーIvo Watts-Russellがグループ側の許可なくリリースを強行したという曰く付きですが、当時のインディー/オルタナティヴとモダン・クラシカル要素が交わる美しい作品です。同タイトルの3曲入り12"プロモ盤には、本作をリミックス/エディットした "Skinned Clean" と "Clear Skin (Second Style)" が収録。
Ambient pop duo Insides teamed singer/bassist Kirsty Yates and guitarist/programmer Julian Tardo, who previously joined forces under the name Earwig. Signing to 4AD's Guernica imprint, the duo debuted in 1993 with the disquieting Euphoria; a year later, label chief Ivo Watts-Russell issued Clear Skin (consisting of a single 38-minute ambient piece) without Insides' permission, and the group parted ways with the company soon after. Landing on the Third Stone label, in 1997 they contributed a track to the A Taste of 3rd Stone Records, Vol. 2 sampler, next resurfacing in mid-2000 with the full-length Sweet Tip.
