bio. John Avery is an English solo performer and composer & sound designer for theatre. In the 1980s & 90s he was a member of the Sheffield band Hula. He has been a collaborator with the theatre group Forced Entertainment since that time and many of his solo projects fed into music for their performances. Over the past three decades, the Swiss artist Roman Signer has exhibited his work in hundreds of solo and group exhibitions and public performances around the world. For Signer, each work is an event, an experiment in which a force such as wind, water, gravity or fire transforms everyday things like umbrellas and plastic bags. In all of his work, Signer proposes new relationships between ordinary objects and elements brought together in extraordinary ways. Born in Appenzell, Switzerland, Signer started his career as an artist later in life at the age of 28, after working as an architect’s draughtsman, a radio engineer apprentice, and a short stint in a pressure cooker factory. Full Spectrum Recordsのオーナーであり、エンジニアとしてAlvin CurranやRobbie Bashoなどの作品のミックス/マスターを担当するオークランド在住のギタリスト/作曲家Andrew Weathers（アンドリュー・ウェザース）。2008年の第一作「Climates」から現在まで、ソロ作品だけでも17の作品を発表。バンジョーやオートハープ、ギターなどアコースティック・インストゥルメントとエレクトロニクスで機織りするように続くドローン/インプロヴィゼーションはいずれも伝統的な芳香を醸すフォーク/クラフトな手触り。2014年夏に録音され、この12月にカナダのネットレーベルbasic_soundsよりリリースされた最新作「Raised High in Badwater Basin」では、これまで基調としていた弦楽器ではなく、ポケットピアノや旧いキーボード、サンプラーといった電子楽器を使用。光の明滅をスローモーションで観察するようなループと淡い持続音が重なる#1。ゆらゆらと恍惚へ誘う電子ドローン#2。タイトルは北アメリカで最も海抜が低いデスヴァレー国立公園の「バッドウォーター盆地」（塩辛くて飲めない、悪い水が湧き出ている）のこと。太古の昔には海であったことを示す塩砂漠の、海底を思わせる雄大な風景が本作のモチーフになっているようです。

The mix consists of ambient and slower vintage 8-bit video game music. It starts off with a cut from Disasterpeace from the album FEZ. I had just recently bought the album and was thinking about doing an 8-bit type of mix myself when Josh sent me his Cartridge mix. Wow, am I glad I didn't bother with my mix because Josh's blend of 8-bit music and video game sounds and tunes is perfect. - note by low light mixes

スロバキア・ブラチスラヴァ出身の画家Ivan Csudaiと、70年代末からオペラ/舞台作品や室内楽、テープ/電子音響作品など多岐にわたる作曲を発表し、ニューウェイヴ・グループMaťkoviaのメンバー/プロデューサーとしても活動した、クラシカル・コンテンポラリーとポップ/ロックのフィールドを跨ぐ奇才Martin Burlasによる初のコラボレーション作品。ドラム/ギター/ピアノ/ベースといったアコースティックな響きを主調とするアンサンブルに、彫りの深い声で語るように淡々と歌うCsudai。全体にモノクロームな色調に統一された抑制的なアンビエンスは、David SylvianやTalk TalkといったUKオルタナティヴ/アート・ロックへのシンパシーを感じさせ、当時のチャートではU2とNirvanaと並び立つほどロック・リスナーの人気を得たそうです。Csudaiのソロ名義でリリースされる以降のコラボレーション・ワークもこの延長線上といえるサウンドで、作詞/作曲/ヴィジュアルを担当するCsudai主導の世界観をBurlasが音響面で色付けしてゆく、各々の持ち味が調和した作品が展開されています。

ラトヴィア・リガの実験音楽グループNSRD＝Nebijušu Sajūtu Restaurēšanas Darbnīca。主要メンバーは、建築家/DJのHardijs Lediņšと、映像作家/画家/詩人のJuris Boikoの2人。76年にLediņšが設立したプライベート・スタジオSequeを拠点に、楽器/非楽器、スタジオの外の環境音、電子変調やコラージュ的手法を使ったフリーフォームな作品を録音。その音源はスタジオと同じSeque名義で管理され、LTO（オープンリール）やカセットで極少数部発行。82年頃から「前例のない感情修復ワークショップ」を意味するNSRDの名のもと、89年までの間にさらに数多くの作品が録音されています。元々Anton WebernyやKarlheinz Stockhausen、John Cageといった前衛/実験音楽の影響を受けた即興的要素が強い初期から、シンセウェイヴに合流し、同時にビデオや写真、映像インスタレーションやイベント/ハプニング、プローモーションを複合したマルチメディアな活動に発展するNSRDは、特にDzeltenie Pastniekiと並ぶニューウェイヴ・シーンの代表格として、またビデオアートの先駆として美術分野で高く評されているそうです。87年12月にレコーディングされた本作「Decembra Sesija」は、その場の閃きにまかせて発するような電子/エフェクト音が戯れあい、伸びたり弾んだりと、どこか捉え所のない様子ですが、いずれもミニマルな感触。Sequeスタジオで録音された音源は（おそらく公認の）アーカイヴサイトで、当時の記録写真やスケッチはjansonsなる人物が運営する追悼サイトで視聴できます。
