ギリシャの知られざるエレクトロニック・ミュージックの発掘・プロモーションを目的に、2012年に立ち上げられたInto The Light Records。近年は本国ギリシャに留まらず国外の若手プロデューサーをフックアップする「インターナショナル・シリーズ」（ITLIntl）というラインも展開していますが、Cass、Bartosz Kruczyński & Poly Chain、Jason Letkiewiczに続くシリーズ第4弾タイトルとして、シドニー在住のDJ/プロデューサーMax Santilli（マクス・サンティリ）によるデビューLPがアナウンスされました。サンティリはJacob Fugarとのデュオ・プロジェクトAngophora（アンゴフォラ）名義でも活動するマルチ・インストゥルメンタリスト。昨年シドニーのアンダーグラウンド・レーベルKen Oath Recordsからリリースされたアルバム「Scenes」では、ギターや打楽器などのアコースティック楽器とエレクトロニクスが心地よく溶け合ったオーガニックな密林サウンドを志向していましたが、本作でもその路線はそのままに、さらにディープなエスノ・アンビエント〜ジャズ・フュージョンを突き詰めた素晴らしい作品に仕上がっている模様です。リリース予定日は9月2日。

For the latest release in their ongoing ‘International’ series, Into The Light Records takes us to Sydney and the dreamy, softly spun musical world of talented multi-instrumentalist Max Santilli. “Surface” is Santilli’s debut album following years spent working alongside Jacob Fugar in Ken Oath Records-signed downtempo duo Angophora. It draws on a personal archive of home recordings made between 2016 and 2018 using a range of guitars, synthesizers and acoustic percussion instruments. As you’d perhaps expect, it’s an intimate and hugely personal set that wraps drowsy, slowly shifting musical flourishes around gentle, sun-kissed rhythms and suitably spacey chords. Santilli offers subtle nods towards his various inspirations – think the mesmerizing ambient-jazz fusion of Michael Bierylo, Steve Hillage’s timeless early ambient works and the intricate acoustic guitar playing of Steve Tibbetts and Miguel Herrero – while forging his own distinctly lo-fi and otherworldly path. As a result, “Surface” is an album of impressive depth and diversity, held together by Santilli’s reflective, emotion-rich vision.

ギター演奏を中心に活動する、京都在住の音楽家・青木隼人さん。自身のレーベル〈grainfield〉から2007-08年にリリースされた初期アルバムと、07年に渋谷の雑貨店ggから特殊パッケージでリリースされた「（は）」のリマスター版、あわせて5つの作品がこの度Apple MusicやSpotifyなどの音楽配信サービスで聴けるようになりました。今回の配信に際して、各作品のための短いレビューを執筆させていただきました。この10年、何度も聴き、親しんできた作品ばかり。しかし、青木隼人という一人の音楽家について、そしてその音楽の魅力についていざ書くとなると、やはり難しく感じました。短い文章の中でそのことがうまく形にできているか自信がありませんが、ご覧いただければとても嬉しいです。彼の音楽があたらしい聞き手に届くことを、そしてどこかで誰かを待つ時間や、もの思う時間になることを願って。

Dreams of India & China is the first retrospective LP of artist and sailor, Rip Hayman. Recorded from 1975-1986, the two side-long works were collaged from a dozen hours of tape recordings (which laid dormant for over 30 years). It ebbs as the tides; pulsing from one location to the next in a faint stupor, Dreams turns to be an autobiographical sound map.
Audio capsules of Hayman’s installation performances, private experiments, and every ethnographic voyage in between are charted. Outdoor recordings canopy over indoor recordings, thatching surreality. Tonal quilts lap over “Dreamwaves” on the first side: an all-night sleep concert hosted by Rip as the sandman. Whispers of recounted dreams, birds and trees, organ waves. The second side traverses more saturated memories: bicycle spokes ripping against half-speed piano, bleeding cymbal dances over saxophone gusts, the tumbling of Rip’s body affixed with bells and metal.
Hayman was a collaborator in New Wilderness Foundation, Ear Magazine, and The Land (a parcel in upstate New York to where John Cage, John Lennon, David Tudor, etc. would escape the city in the 1970s). He is the owner of the oldest bar in NYC, The Ear Inn. Focusing on nautical inventions and intentions these days, Rip has veered away from composition; hopefully that will change. UKバレアリック界のベテラン・デュオA Man Called Adam（ア・マン・コールド・アダム）のセカンド・フルレングスLP「Duende」から99年にリミックス・カットされた12" EP「Easter Song」が、オリジナルのリリースから20周年を記念し、またこの日曜日の復活祭にあわせ、彼らのバンドキャンプでフリー・ダウンロード公開されています。メロウなアフリカン・ビーツ、フォーキーなハープシコードのアルペジオ、イビサの夕景とその彼方まで広がってゆくような幻想的なシンセパッドとEddie Parker（エディ・パーカー）の美しいフルート。そしてSally Rodgers（サリー・ロジャース）のヴォーカルをフィーチャーしたチルアウト・クラシック。彼らは "Earthly Powers" のようなハウス・ナンバーでも知られていますが、自分にとってはこの "Easter Song" やLustral "Everytime" のリミックスのような穏やかなムードのダウンビートが、かつてのチルアウト・ムーブメントへの憧情とともにより親しみ深く響きます。ダウンロードは下のリンクより。

スペイン国内でも独自の文化を持つカタルーニャ州のタラゴナ県モンブラン出身の作曲家・ピアニストConrad Setó（コンラッド・セト）。本作「Joc De Dames」はカタルーニャ文化圏の伝統音楽や現代音楽を扱うバルセロナのレーベルAudiovisuals De Sarriàから86年にリリースされた、セトの2作目となるリーダー・アルバムです。盟友ギタリストAlbert Giménez（アルベルト・ヒメネス）をはじめ、ベーシストEduard Altaba（エドアルド・アルタバ）、打楽器奏者Angel Pereira（アンヘル・ペレイラ）といったカタラン・ジャズロック最前衛の面々が参加。ヒメネスのソロ作にも通じるフォークロアの情調に、近代音楽、電子音楽、ミニマル・ミュージックなどの要素をモザイク状に折衷させた、やや翳りを帯びたコンテンポラリー・ジャズが1時間20分にわたり流れるように進行していきます。ベッツィやシルヴィ、アレハンドラという曲名はいずれも女性の名前。タイトルは「婦人達の遊び」と訳すことができますが、老婦方を描いた物語を主題にしたか、または身近な方々に捧げた作品なのでしょうか。自治政府によるベストアルバム賞の第一回受賞作。初作「Magic」も傑作ですが、個人的にはこちらの方が好きです。

中国ロック界の草分け的グループ＝黑梦（ヘイバオ Heibao）の元ヴォーカリストとして知られ、90年代にソロ転向後も現在まで国内を代表するアーティストの一人として活動を続ける北京出身の作曲家／プロデューサー＝竇唯（ドウ・ウェイ Dou Wei）。彼が率いる不定形セッション・プロジェクト＝不一样楽隊（ブーイーヤン Buyiyang）が2009年に録音、翌年に発表した、おそらく通算で3作目となるアルバム。レコーディングメンバーは、窦唯と、その父親で民族楽器奏者の窦绍儒（Dou Shaoru）、ブッダマシンの開発者FM3のメンバーでもある张荐（Zhang Jian）と、その父親でクラリネット奏者の张荣舫（Zhang Rongzhen）という2世代2組の4人編成。古雅な笛子の調べ、ミニマルなリズムを刻む打楽器、やわらかな音色のエレクトロニクス、そして本作の主題にもなっている春雨の音。中国の伝統音楽のエッセンスにダウンテンポ〜エレクトロニカのフィーリングが軽やかに溶け合う心地よいアコースティック・アンサンブル。ほのぼのとした牧歌的グルーヴの中にも遥か悠久の時の流れを感じさせるような、しっかり地に足のついた、完成度の高いインストゥルメンタル・サウンドを展開しています。レーベルは竇唯自身が2010年に立ち上げた窦唯音乐工作室发行（Dou Wei Music Studio）。同時期に録音された他3作「笛音夏扇」「入秋」「箫乐冬炉」とともに四季を表現した連作シリーズとなっています。本作以降も即興・環境音楽に深く傾倒しながら、年2〜3枚のハイペースで作品を発表。ロック界のレジェンドと評されるだけでなく、中国でもっとも成功している最古参アンビエント・ミュージシャンといえる存在なのかもしれません。

Vasco Martins is a Cape Verdean composer of orchestral music, electronic, progressive, ambient, and with beautiful incursions in traditional CV music. As a performer Vasco Martins plays electronic keyboards with his own design, piano and guitar. In the early 1980s, when he was studying in Paris, fascinated by the possibilities of synthesizers, he began his forays into electronic music, which until now has remained the axial force of his music. As a naturalist, he has a special approach to the Atlantic Ocean and sea eagle Pandion halieatus. His epic symphony No. 9 'Atlantic Ocean', shows this close interconnection. In a career spanning over 40 years, writing and composing more than 30 albums, Vasco Martins is regarded as a representative composer of electronic and orchestral music. ▲
