イギリスの公共テレビ局チャンネル4で1990年8月に放送された、スペイン・イビサ島のクラブ・カルチャーを題材とするドキュメンタリー番組「A Short Film About Chilling」。Terry Farley、Charlie Chester、Rocky & Diesel、The Farm、808 Stateなど、DJ・ミュージシャンへのインタビューやライブ映像を交え、ヨーロッパのダンス・ミュージック〜チルアウト・ムーブメントの中心地として隆盛するイビサの動勢を捉えた30分。監督は、Creation Records所属のアーティストのMVを手がけたことで知られるAngus Cameron（アンガス・キャメロン）。

昨年、Franco Nanniのアルバム「Elicoide」を復刻した〈Affordable Inner Space〉とは別に、ローマ拠点のレーベルElectronique.itの傘下に設けられたもう一つのレトロスペクティヴ部門〈Lost In It〉より、ギリシャのアンビエント・プロジェクトParallel Worlds（パラレル・ワールズ）の初期音源集がリリース。Parallel Worldsは、アテネ出身の音楽家Bakis Sirros（バキス・シロス）のソロ名義として1994年に始動。90年代後期から国内のエレクトロニック・ミュージック・シーンで活動し、2003年の「Existence」を皮切りに、これまで国内外の複数のレーベルからソロ・アルバムと、Alio DieやIan Boddyのようなアンビエントの重鎮作家との共作アルバムを発表しています。「Existence」以前、95年から97年にかけて、アテネにあるウェイヴマウンテン・スタジオで多数のアナログシンセやシーケンサーを駆使して制作されたという本作。Klaus SchulzeやPete Namlookなどドイツ勢からの強い影響と同時期のIDM／エレクトロニカをブレンドさせたような、荒涼とした近未来風景とメランコリックな情感を呼び起こすアンビエント・サウンドが全編にわたって展開されています。テクノ／ハウス／ミニマリズムの視点から80-90年代のエレクトロニック・ミュージックを回顧しつつ、意外な音楽家にスポットを当て続ける〈Lost In It〉と〈Affordable Inner Space〉。タイトル数はまだ多くはないですが、今後のリリース展開もかなり気になるレーベルです。

Parallel Worlds’ music is a combination of dreamy/atmospheric textures with pure analogue electronic rhythms and sequences, combining the feel of 70s electronic music with modern electronica and ambient music. For Parallel Worlds, melody is essential, but most important is emotional context. Parallel Worlds are the main project of Bakis Sirros with John Sirros (and some occasional collaborators). They were originally born in 1994, but only after 1998 they started to be a part of the active greek electronic music scene.  Parallel Worlds have collaborated, so far, with established Italian ambient composer Alio Die, with the very well-known UK electronic music master Ian Boddy, and with the music professor Dave Bessell (member of the NODE synth supergroup). Bakis Sirros also participates on some collaboration projects, the project “Interconnected” with the german musician Ingo Zobel (of DRON, Signalform, Self Oscillate, Datasette, etc.), the ambient / experimental project “Memory Geist” with the australian electronica musician Steve Law (of Zen Paradox, Starseed Transmission, Guild Of Fire, etc.). Bakis Sirros has also teached Synthesizer Programming at an (after-high-school) public learning institution and also instructed a Workshop on Analogue Modular Synthesis in Synch Festival 2008. ▲

旧ユーゴスラビアの知られざるエレクトロニック・ミュージックを発掘するインディペンデント・レーベルDiscomより、80年代ベオグラードで活動していたシンセポップ・バンドConsequential（コンセクエンシャル）の未発表音源集がリリース。メンバーは、同レーベルからリリースされたDATAやŠizikeなどのプロジェクトの仕掛人でもある重要人物Zoran Jevtić（ゾラン・イェヴティッチ）と、国内初となる電子音楽スタジオを設立したNikolaj Bežek（ニコライ・ベゼク）。

私たちが旧ユーゴスラビアの音楽に取り組んでいるように、ある地域に残された音楽をリリースすることに焦点を置く場合、発掘すべき質の高い音源がなくなってしまうのは恐ろしいことです。しかし、情熱と高い倫理基準を持っているなら、その願望は、音楽愛好家だけでなく、アーティスト自身によっても評価され始め、時にアーティストが忘れられた作品を救うために密接に関わってくることさえあります。今回、ユーゴスラビアの電子音楽の先駆者であるゾラン・イェヴティッチ（DATA、Šizike、The Master Scratch Band、Digitronの創設メンバー）とニコライ・ベゼク（ベオグラードの初期エレクトロニック・シーンの重要な貢献者）との関係は、職業上の境界を越え、初期ユーゴスラビアン・エレクトロニカを明らかにするという使命を私たちに与えてくれました。私たちの新しいリリース「MicroComposed 1980-86」は、その相互の労力の成果です。このレコードは、彼らのグループConsequentialによって1980年から86年にかけて作曲され、ベオグラードのセルダーヨラ通りにあったユーゴスラビア初の純粋な電子音楽スタジオで録音された、10曲の未発表曲コレクションです。この地域的条件においては非常に希少で、不可欠な、ローランド製アナログシーケンサーMC-4B、モジュラーシンセSYSTEM-100M、ボコーダーSVC-350とVP-330のような機材のおかげで、イェヴティッチとベゼクはキャッチーなボコーダーと80年代の実験的エレクトロニカ、イタロディスコとシンセポップからの強い影響を組み合わせ、彼らが本当に好きな音楽を作り出すことができました。

Consequential is synth-pop band active in period between 1980 and 1986 in Belgrade, former Yugoslavia. It is founded by Zoran Jevtić (DATA, Šizike, The Master Scratch Band, Digitron) and Nikolaj Bežek (the founder one of Yugoslavia's first purely electronic music oriented studios, in Serdar Jola Street, Belgrade). The duo's equipment included: Roland MC-4B Microcomposer & OP8 Interface, System 100M, TR-808, TR-707, Juno 60, SH-101, SVC-350, VP-330 Vocoders, Korg Mono Poly, Polysix & MS10, Sequential Circuits Pro-One & Drumtracks, RSF Kobol and a Simmons drum module.

[224.1] Radio Relativa 10TRAX

10月8日にマドリッドのオンラインラジオRadio Relativaで放送されたミックスが、Relativaのサウンドクラウドで公開になりました。「ジャンル・時間制限なしの10曲」というコンセプトの10TRAXシリーズ。今回、フュージョンやスムースジャズのトラックを中心に選曲しています。 
Radio Relativaは、音楽・アート・建築・グラフィティなど共通の趣味をもつ学生により6年前に始動したプロジェクトUndermadが母体となって、今年2月に新たに立ち上げられたラジオ局。現在Undermadのクルーは6〜7名で、それぞれが異なる場所で、Limbo Clubなどのパーティーを主催しながら、オンラインでのアートインタビューやラジオの放送に取り組まれています。彼らの過去5年の活動については、ストリートカルチャーを発信するウェブマガジン25 Gramosの特設ページ「5 años de Undermad」に詳しく書かれています。 
今回ミックスシリーズに参加するきっかけになったのは、UndermadのメンバーであるMiguel Martinezからいただいたメッセージでした。LYL Radioでの3月の放送（スペインのギタリストMiguel Herreroの特集回）を聴いてくださったといい、また、以前彼らが関わったパーティーにSuso Sáizが出演したことを教えてくれました。医師になるための勉強をされているMiguelさんがギャップイヤーで本国を離れている間、やりとりを引き次いでくれたのが、もう1人のメンバーPablo Losa Andrés。元々は別の設立メンバーが始めた10TRAXシリーズは、現在この2人が中心になって続けられています。彼らとのメッセージの交換を通じてスペインのアンダーグラウンドなシーンを知り、身近に感じられたのは、自分にとってとても嬉しいことでした。Miguelさん、Pabloさん、声をかけてくださりありがとうございました。

米ミネアポリスの独立非営利組織On Being Studiosが運営するラジオ番組のアーカイヴより。騒音制御プロジェクトOne Square Inch of Silenceの創設者であり、Miramarの自然音シリーズをはじめ、現在まで60以上ものサウンドスケープCDを制作・発表してきた著名プロデューサーGordon Hempton（ゴードン・ヘンプトン）の特集「サイレンスとすべての存在」。

ドイツにおけるハウス・ミュージックの礎を築いたDJの1人と評されるHeinz Felber（ハインツ・フェルバー）と、フェルバーと共に複数の名義で活動し、多くのクラブヒットを放ったプロデューサーMichael Rödiger（ミヒャエル・オーディガー）。この2人のプロジェクトAtlantis（アトランティス）が、92年にベルギーの名門Apolloからリリースした唯一の作品。ZENライクな尺八をフィーチャーしたA面 "Paradise Part 1" は、翌年のレーベル・コンピレーション「Apollo 1」にも収録されたチルアウトの名トラック。「チルアウト」というと、90年代後期以降はダウンテンポ〜ラウンジが典型となり、現在ではリラクゼーショナルなムードを持った音楽全般を指すものになっていますが、90年代初頭は単なるリラックス、クールダウンさせる音楽ではなく、レイヴの狂乱と並行して存在する仮想世界へのトリップを促すサイケデリック〜スピリチュアル・ミュージックとしての側面が強かったのだろうと思います。下の動画は、Atlantisのほか、Silence (Pete Namlook and Dr. Atmo)、Aphex Twin、The Orbらの曲を収録した、ベルリンのヴィデオ・レーベルStud!o K7の映像作品「3 Lux-3」。

Earth TraxやPejzażの名義でディープハウス作品をコンスタントにリリースする一方で、「Baltic Beat」以降は影を潜めていたBartosz Kruczyński（バルトシュ・クルシェンスキ）のクワイエット・サイド。実際は、この数年間ポーランドの国営テレビ局Telewizja Polska SAの芸術・映画・文化専門チャンネルTVP Kulturaのサウンド・デザインに従事していたといい、そのコラボレイティヴ・ワークスの中から選ばれた15曲が、英Emotional Responseから新作アルバムとしてリリースされることがアナウンスされています。レーベルによると、これらの曲はフリー・アーティスティック・ライセンスのもとで管理され、これまでMagdalena Abakanowicz（マグダレーナ・アバカノヴィッチ）、Miroslaw Balka（ミロスワフ・バウカ）、Tadeusz Kantor（タデウシュ・カンター）、Enrico Prampolini（エンリコ・プランポリーニ）、Ai Weiwei（アイ・ウェイウェイ）、Monica Bonvicini（モニカ・ボンヴィチーニ）といった国内外の現代美術家のためのプログラミングに採用されたとのこと。「Baltic Beat」や「Schleißen 2」にも通じる木管楽器アレンジによるミニマル・ミュージックから、第四世界音楽、アトモスフェリックなダブテクノまで、彼がメディアの裏方として手掛けてきたアンビエント・ワークスの集成としてとても楽しみな一枚です。リリース予定日は11月26日。

Emotional Response is delighted to present a special project, a collection of music from Bartosz Kruczynski, recorded for "Selected Media" and presented here as a time-piece of his continuing works. Initially known as one half of sample based project Ptaki (The Very Polish Cut Outs / Transatlantyk), Kruczynski first appeared for Emotional Response as The Phantom for the first series of SchleiBen in 2015. Featuring two works of deep 'fourth world' sounds, they highlighted a shift to more mellow, synthetic and hazy compositions. His break out came, however, when he explored this sound further on his eponymous album Baltic Beat, for the acclaimed Growing Bin Records. This has been augmented with the recent club based music as one half of the wonderful Earth Trax (Rhythm Section International / Phonica Records) project. Here though, Kruczynski returns to the ambient and ethereal - plus a touch of dub techno - to showcase his expansive collaborative work with Polish studio, TVP Culture. Given free artistic license, the 15 'short form' recordings included here were for programming, in the main, on modern Polish Art including the likes of Magdalena Abakanowicz, Miroslaw Balka and Tadeusz Kantor, as well as some international aspects for Enrico Prampolini, Ai Weiwei and Monica Bonvicini. Taken from over 70 episodes the material included recollects imagery, video and memory to present a series of short vignettes that together create one whole. Minimal and hazy ambience (V, VII, VIII, XI, XII) envisages classic melodies and chords and is accompanied by further 'fourth world' pieces (I, II, III, VII, X) that present an oeuvre that is recognisably the music of Kruczynski, while remaining fresh and perfectly meditative. A counter can be found in the atmospheric dub works (IV, IX, XIV) that hint at echo chamber environs to get infinitely lost in. As an album then, "Selected Media" can be heard as a snapshot to Kruczynski's music journey, a meeting of art and music that is oft overlooked but very much essential.
