[182] Mario Ciccioli's Aeolian Sculptures

Mario Ciccioli（マリオ・チチョリ）は、1984年以来風の音を焦点をあて、自身でデザインしたエオリアン・ハープ（伊語でアルペ・エオリア）によるサイトスペシフィックなインスタレーション作品の制作やパフォーマンスを中心に活動しているトゥスカーニア在住の彫刻家。88年7月に音楽フェスティバル「タイムゾーン」で披露されたチチョリのエオリアン・ハープの野外録音素材を基本的な雰囲気として用いて、Pier Luigi Andreoni（ピエル・ルイジ・アンドレオーニ）とFrancesco Paladino（フランチェスコ・パラディーノ）がシンセやサンプラーを駆使して作り上げた作品「Aeolyca」。音響彫刻ドローンと空想民俗アンビエントのコラボレーション。

[181.1] Mori To Kiroku No Ongaku #3

LYL Radio「Mori To Kiroku No Ongaku」の3回目が1月18日に放送されました。前半は、先日改訂版を発行した水の冊子に関連した楽曲から。後半は、エレクトロ・デュオRuinsやアンビエント・バンドWind Projectで知られるヴェネチア・メストレのプロデューサーAlessandro Pizzin（アレッサンドロ・ピツィン）を特集しました。ピツィンは、80年代初頭から先駆的にミクストメディアに焦点を当てた音楽活動を展開し、絵画展やビデオ・パフォーマンス、映画、医療プログラムなどの音楽を制作してきました。この特集では、自主レーベルExploraから発表したソロアルバムや、Ruins名義の実験的な作品、80年代後半から90年代前半にかけてパドヴァのバンカー・スタジオで彼がプロデュースを手掛けたAlejas、Roberto Scarpa、Wind Projectの作品から選曲しています。各トラックの詳細については、トラックリスト下の「details」をご覧ください。

the third episode of my show was broadcast on January 18th. the first hour is a selection of Japanese aquatic newage and environmental music that is mostly related to a small book entitled "Mizu To Zunkan No Ongaku" which I published a revised edition last month. the second hour is a special feature on Italian producer Alessandro Pizzin. Pizzin is known as being the founder of the pioneering electro band Ruins, and also the founder and one of the main composer of Wind Project with Gigi Masin and Alessandro Monti. he has been active since the 1970s in Venice Mestre, and has worked proactively focusing on mixed media since the early 1980s. I mainly selected tracks from his solo albums, Ruins' experimental works, and also his producing works with other talented musicians such as Alejas, Roberto Scarpa and Wind Project. I am thankful to Alessandro for the great cooperation and permission to use unreleased tracks, also Aki and Lucas for working for my show.

90年代からゲーム業界のサウンドクリエイターとして活動し、Mr. YTやDisposable、Missing Projectなど複数の名義でテクノ〜ハウス作品をリリースしてきた京都生まれのプロデューサー竹ノ内裕治。この「Brand New Day」は、90年代後半にMr. YT名義でリリースされたEP3枚をコンパイルした2LP。彼の音楽にはよく「エバーグリーン」という言葉が添えられていますが、それも納得の、どこまでも澄みきった青空をイメージさせる瑞々しいトラックばかり。単に旧音源のコレクションというより、朝から夜までの移ろいゆく時間を描いたEP「Brand New Day」の4編を軸に、その世界観をアルバムサイズに拡張した、ひとつのストーリーの流れを感じさせる構成となっています。昨年、日々の忙しさから身も心も困憊してしまったときにポジティヴなエネルギーをもらった一枚です。

Swiss artist and veteran producer Ripperton contacted the ESP Institute out of the blue mid-2017 to share a gorgeous mix of self-produced material, a collection of pieces made without any agenda outside of representing the self, not geared toward the dancefloor or a specific environment but simply a bi-product of introspective exploration. We were floored, the mix was on constant repeat in our world for weeks, then was subsequently pulled apart into separate titles to form this beautiful double LP, Ripperton’s debut with the label. The title 'Sight Seeing' speaks of someone stepping outside their current reality to look in the mirror, as if to ground themselves and keep sight of who they are in a world of extreme highs and lows. Inspired greatly by expansive landscapes and views from airplane windows (imagine your commute flying over the Alps every weekend), Ripperton describes this collection as postcards to himself, messages from his subconscious recorded on tape (both conceptually and literally), melancholy soundtracks to the Mondays that follow weekend journeys. While musical genres tend to cycle through bandwagon moments, the ESP Institute strives to operate independently of these, and while 'Sight Seeing' is undoubtably an Ambient album, we’re simply proud to revel in the chance moment where an esteemed artist such as Ripperton spreads his wings in a beautifully unexpected mode of expression.

1980年代後半、コペンハーゲンで伝説的パーティー「Coma: Copenhagen Offers More Action」を主催していたDr. Baker aka Kenneth Bager（ケネス・ベイガー）が、Mega Records内に立ち上げた同名レーベルから89年にリリースした、ラテン風味漂うニューエイジハウス古典。ヴォーカルには後にダンスポップ・ユニットCamilotでデビューする女性シンガーCamilla Wisøfeldt、サックスにJack Rothe、キーボードにDr. Illington aka Lasse Mosegaardが参加。ベイガーが運営するMusic For Dreamsのウェブサイトによると、新しいエディットを含む12"シングルのリイシューが計画されているようです。

クラシック音楽、ジャズ、実験音楽などのコンサート音源やラジオ放送のアーカイヴを公開しているradioOM.orgより。1979年4月17日ペンシルベニア州ルイスバーグのバックネル大学にて録音された、ポストミニマリズム作曲家William Duckworth（ウィリアム・ダックワース）によるソロピアノ作品「タイム・カーヴ・プレリューズ」のコンサートの模様。演奏者はNeely Bruce（ニーリー・ブルース）。

これらの作品は、リズムを通じて創造された新しい音楽形式、モーダルと合成音階の使用、ドローンの音楽的な重心の定義（それぞれのプレリュードの中や周りに舞う音のオーラとして聞こえるドローン）への、ダックワースの長期にわたる関心が一体となって反映されています。音楽的には、「タイム・カーヴ・プレリューズ」はディエス・イレ（キリスト教の終末思想を意味する、クラシック音楽におけるレクイエム）に基づく1つの主要なメロディーに焦点を当て、エリック・サティ、ブルーグラスのバンジョー・ピッキングや、時にジェリー・リー・ルイスの演奏スタイルから得たヒントを含めて、すべてを比例時間に基づく創造的なアーキテクチャによる音楽空間へと収めています。このアーキテクチャは、フィボナッチ・シリーズだけでなく、ダックワースが作った付加的・減少的・累積的な構造を広く使用しています。ダックワースが何年にも渡って関心を持っていたリズムのアイデアの集大成にして、また彼のその後の方向性を示す作品です。▲
